Focus Points offers parenting/healthy relationship classes for couples and families to develop habits that lead to stronger families, programs to encourage fathers to become more involved in their children's schooling and nutrition and mental health classes. Focus Points provides parenting education to 75 families per year. Parenting programs are offered on a rotating basis throughout the year.
In January 2009, Focus Points launched a new program to bring young fathers into the Parents as Teachers program as part of the Responsible Fatherhood initiative. In addition, referrals are offered to health care providers and agencies that help families deal with domestic violence, substance abuse, and other issues.
All participants complete an intake assessment and domestic violence screening at the beginning of the program. Another survey is taken at the end of each parenting course. All the data is entered into a family health database maintained by the OMNI Institute, which collects data on parenting programs around Colorado to evaluate their effectiveness.
Expected Result: 100% of participants who complete a parenting program will report that they gained valuable skills that lead to healthier relationships.
