Its October! There are\u00a0so many wonderful seasonal activities that happen this time of year in\u00a0Denver<\/strong><\/a> y Aurora<\/a>.<\/strong>\u00a0Whether you go “leaf peeping<\/strong><\/a>”\u00a0in the mountains, pick a pumpkin<\/strong><\/a> at a local farm, enjoy some “tricks”\u00a0and “treats” for Halloween<\/strong><\/a>, or celebrate\u00a0D\u00eda de los Muertos<\/a><\/strong>, we hope you take part in some fun fall family time.<\/p>\n Focus Points also\u00a0recognizes\u00a0Breast Cancer Awareness Month<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>y\u00a0<\/strong>National Depression and\u00a0Mental Health Screening Month<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>this month.\u00a0We encourage you and your family to prioritize your physical and mental health this month\u2014by checking in with your healthcare providers and making time to strengthen family bonds, create lasting memories, and enjoy the many seasonal delights October has to offer.<\/p>\n We\u00a0now have a blog where you can\u00a0stay up to date with information, resources, and opportunities available in and around\u00a0the Globeville, Elyria, and\u00a0Swansea neighborhoods along with highlights from Focus Points! Our\u00a0Home Visitation (PAT and HIPPY) programs<\/strong> are compiling a cookbook of our participants\u2019 favorite family recipes<\/strong>! We plan to give out this cookbook to all of the PAT and HIPPY families at this year’s Winter Fiesta on Friday, December 5th<\/strong> as a special holiday present!<\/p>\n To submit your recipe, please include the following:<\/p>\n We would also welcome any photos<\/strong> of you and your family cooking or eating your special dish, please include these in your submissions.<\/p>\n Email all recipe information and photos to the<\/strong> Home Visitation pro<\/strong>gram<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong>The deadline to submit is: Friday, October 31.<\/strong><\/p>\n On the afternoon of Thursday, October 9<\/strong>, our PAT and HIPPY families came together to enjoy a fall group connection out back on our\u00a0Huerta Urbana farm!\u00a0The weather was warm and inviting as families decorated pumpkins, created their own fall trees, ate home-made food brought by our educators, and picked fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs\u00a0on the farm for recipes they received! Many of the children and parents\u00a0came in costumes and it was a great harvest event for everyone!<\/p>\n October is the final month of our “pay what you can”\u00a0Farmers’ Market<\/strong>\u00a0–\u00a0open every<\/strong>\u00a0Friday afternoon in October\u00a0from 2:00pm-5:00pm until Friday, October 31*. <\/strong>This is a great opportunity to get\u00a0fresh, local fruit and vegetables\u00a0grown on our Huerta Urbana farm, and by other\u00a0vendors.<\/p>\n *On the last day of the Market on Friday, October 31, come watch performers from the Athena Project<\/a>!\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n NOTA: <\/strong>If you have any Booth Bucks<\/strong> left, please be sure to use them this month at the Market or return them to the registration table by October 31<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Don’t forget to bring your HUFM card <\/strong>for an easier check-in process when you come.<\/p>\n Denver children ages 0-5 can still receive a free bounty bag at our farm booth.<\/strong><\/p>\n We also\u00a0accept SNAP benefits<\/strong>. Just let one of our staff know at the check-in table that you wish to use them.<\/p>\n The Huerta Urbana program is a community powered resource for everyone, and a great direct way to support each other as neighbors.
