Focus Points Board Statement on Application to Rezone our Property at East 48th Avenue

At Focus Points Family Resource Center, we are committed to transparency and to the people we serve. For more than 30 years, we’ve worked alongside families in the Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea neighborhoods to build community, strengthen households, and expand opportunities.

We were disappointed by City Council’s recent vote against our rezoning application. Still, we remain committed to advancing our mission and pursuing opportunities that support the long-term well-being of the community.

Our rezoning application was an important step to improve current programming and plan the next steps for our organization, including the creation of a Community Land Trust to ensure the land will always serve the community. With rezoning, we planned to explore opportunities such as affordable housing, early childhood education, and healthy food access, guided as always by the priorities our community shares with us.

Our application was thorough, met the City’s criteria, and received unanimous recommendations for approval from the Denver Planning Commission and City Council’s Land Use, Transportation & Infrastructure Committee (LUTI).

At Focus Points, compliance and transparency have always been our top priority. For more than three decades, we’ve partnered with the City to help families access public benefits and community resources. Additionally, we regularly serve older adults with the Office of Aging, and we even offered our land to support the construction of Swansea Rec Center. Our organization’s history reflects a commitment to partnership and accountability, which includes prioritizing the fair treatment of staff and participants. We also stand firmly behind the leadership of our executive director, Jules Kelty, whose integrity and dedication to the mission are unwavering.

We honor the legacy of Comal Heritage Food Incubator, which operated for eight years before closing in February 2025. Comal provided a platform for dozens of participants to gain confidence, build community, and launch their own businesses. We are proud of the lasting impact this program had on both our participants and Denver.

We are deeply grateful to the many partners, supporters, and community members who continue to reach out with encouragement and appreciation. Your trust fuels our work. We remain steadfast in our mission and will continue to serve the community with the dedication and integrity that have guided us for more than three decades.
