Monthly Awareness

August is about Health and Wellness

August is more than just back-to-school season—it’s also a time to shine a light on important aspects of health and well-being. This month, Focus Points is recognizing Wellness Month,

Immunization Awareness Month, World Cancer Support Month, and Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month.

Each of these observances reminds us how interconnected our health is—body, mind, and community—and how small actions, like scheduling an eye exam or keeping up with recommended vaccines, can have a lasting impact.

At Focus Points, we are committed to creating an inclusive community where every family has access to the resources, knowledge, and support they need to thrive. Throughout the month, we encourage you to focus on the importance of maintaining good health to help you and your loved ones stay informed, inspired, and empowered to thrive.

Program Updates

Back2School Was a Success!

Thank you to all the families who came out on Saturday, August 9th for our Back2School event! It was wonderful to see our community come together connecting over arts and crafts, games, face painting, and enjoying local music and dance performances that celebrated the diverse cultural heritage of our community! And a big thanks to all our community partners who participated this year – you made our milestone 30th anniversary celebration shine even brighter!

Huerta Urbana Farmers’ Market

We had such a great time on Friday, August 8 celebrating National Farmers Market Week with many of our community partners engaging families with fun activities while enjoying live music!

Our “pay what you can” Farmers’ Market still continues and is open most Friday afternoons from 2:00pm-5:00pm. This is a great opportunity to get fresh, local fruit and vegetables grown on our Huerta Urbana farm, and by other vendors.

Please see the full 2025 schedule here.

If you came to our Market last year, you received a card at check-in with your information on it. You can use that same card again this year! Bring it Friday and skip the line! See the photo of a card below as an example.

Our Farmers’ Market accepts SNAP benefits. Just let one of our staff know at the check-in table that you wish to use them.
