September is about Health and Celebration

September is also Hispanic Heritage Month celebrated from September 15 to October 15. We hope that you check out some local events around Denver that honor the history and heritage that we are proud to be a part of!

Program Updates
Huerta Urbana Farmers’ Market
Our “pay what you can” Farmers’ Market still continues as we enter Fall.
October is the last month of the Market with every Friday afternoon (Oct 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31) open from 2:00pm-5:00pm. This is a great opportunity to get fresh, local fruit and vegetables grown on our Huerta Urbana farm, and by other vendors.
Don’t forget to bring your HUFM card for an easier check-in process when you come.
There are also Pay it Forward options where you can directly donate to the Huerta Urbana program as a way of giving back.
Denver children ages 0-5 can still receive a free bounty bag at our farm booth.
We also accept SNAP benefits. Just let one of our staff know at the check-in table that you wish to use them.
In addition, we want to hear from you! Please complete the following survey to help us improve our seasonal Market. Thanks!

Farewell to the Wildflower English for Newcomers Program
As the month closes, so do the doors of Focus Points’ longest running program, our Wildflower English for Newcomers program, due to lack of funding to support the continuation of the program. It is always hard to say goodbye, but our Wildflower team has made the most of every moment.
On Friday, August 29, Wildflower staff and students had a field trip to the History Colorado Center where they learned all about Colorado history. The group enjoyed lunch and several fun activities together including teaching a mock English class in a recreated century-old schoolhouse.
On Sunday, September 14, everyone came out to enjoy the nice weather for a “Celebration of Learning” picnic in the park. Later in the week, we invited the Denver Public Library and Aurora Public Library to our center to assist participants in signing up for their own library cards allowing students to access language support resources. The last day of classes was on Thursday, September 18.
Thank you to everyone who participated in our final gatherings and classes, bringing lots of joy to students, families, and our dedicated Wildflower staff. We hope to revive this programming in future years so that we can once again welcome English learners from around the world. Here’s to our amazing Wildflower students and educators and to all of the participants who have been a part of this program. We wish you all continued success!
