Monthly Awareness

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, allowing us an opportunity to pause, reflect, and learn how mental health affects our thoughts, emotions, and relationships in daily life. It is also a reminder that many people experience mental health challenges, and through support, understanding, and connection, we can make a difference in each other’s lives.

At Focus Points, you are not alone. We care about your wellbeing and encourage you to take small steps to care for yourself, whether that means reaching out, resting, or connecting with someone you trust.

For more information, please check out Mental Health America.

We also want to wish all the mothers and mother figures in our lives a happy Mother’s Day on Sunday May 10. Here are some fun happenings around Denver to celebrate with you and your family!

New Youth Summer Program and Youth Advisory Committee

Our Youth Advisory Committee is off to a strong start this spring, and we’re excited to continue the momentum with a new summer opportunity, “Youth Ignite: Forging Connections in the Summer.”

Open to teens ages 11–18 in the 80205 and 80216 communities, these youth-led programs offer a chance to build leadership skills, make new friends and explore future goals. Through Youth Ignite, participants will enjoy team-building activities, hear from guest speakers and take part in field trips around Denver, with lunch provided.

To learn more and sign up for either program, please read both flyers or contact Youth Coordinator, Will Grubbs, at Will@focuspoints.org.

Recap: Home Visitation Programs in April

Focus Points’ Home Visitation teams

We support families with the tools and guidance they need for children to grow and thrive. So far this year, we’ve worked with nearly 200 families and completed more than 3,000 home visits, building trusted relationships that support child development and family well-being.

Through PAT and HIPPY, we help prevent child abuse and neglect by training educators, equipping parents and creating opportunities for connection and learning.

Child Abuse Prevention Month talks

In April, families in Focus Points’ PAT and HIPPY programs learned how to recognize warning signs, create safe environments and advocate for their children. Thank you to our partners, Illuminate Colorado and Darkness to Light, for helping make these important conversations possible.

Conference, advocacy and more!

Our educators attended the Rocky Mountain Early Childhood Conference to gain new tools to better support families. Glenda, our Senior Manager of both programs, also represented our community at Speak Up for Kids Advocacy Day at the state Capitol and was appointed to Denver Head Start by Mayor Mike Johnston.
