Focus Points serves over 2,900 participants each year, most of whom are Spanish-speaking immigrants. Position Summary:
The BOH Specialist/Social Enterprise Education Coordinator is a part-time Social Enterprise staff member who leads Food and Farming Industry Specific Classes weekly both virtually and In-Person in both English and Spanish. This position also provides Back of the House assistance at Comal Heritage when needed.
Responsibilities & Activities:
Instruction and Administrative
- Google Classroom (TA assistance, reviewing assignments, posting videos and other resources)
- Lead Business Skills and Food and Farming Industry Specific Classes weekly both virtually and In-Person in both English and Spanish
- Assist with onboarding of Comal and Huerta
- Open office hours for Homework, Tech Assistance and other educational needs of participants
- Assist with Spanish Translation of Education Documents and coordinate with translation services to secure live translators for classes or translation for languages other than Spanish
- Data track of Social Enterprise participants progression throughout each year’s curriculum
- Create more organizational systems in SharePoint to help SE continue to compile all the education participants received to demonstrate Apprenticeship and Accreditation compliance
- Create documents of skills learned and maintain them as the programs grow, to help SE better verify participants skills for future employment and business launching and growth.
- Assist us with tracking and creating systems for college level interns
- Assist with 2gen Nutrition Education at HUFM
Back of the House
- Assists with putting away food orders and rotating food and non-food items to ensure food safety
- Operate the register utilizing TOAST POS when
- Assist with Catering and other Special Events as needed, e., Veggie Valet, Food Festivals, Huerta Urbana Farmers Market.
- Assist with inventory to ensure food and non-food items are available while minimizing food
- Occasionally assist with commissary businesses usage of kitchen and assist with ensuring organization of shared kitchen spaces.
- Assist and support Comal participants during food
Required Competencies:
- Teaching/Training: Ability to develop, deliver, and adapt the curriculum to different learning styles to engage, share information, and increase skill level of participants
- Bilingualism: Ability to communicate in another language to support linguistic justice for our participants and ensure equitable access to information and social capital; required language includes Spanish
- Curriculum Planning: Create and deliver lessons that are skill-specific and student-driven to meet the needs and objectives of the class
- Written Communication: Utilize email, digital data tracking platforms, and classroom planning materials (such as lesson plans) to report progress and needs for each class
- Decision Making/Judgement: Ability to manage classroom dynamics to ensure a safe and equitable learning environment for all; this includes ensuring that your classroom environment is structured to meet the needs of a diverse range of students in terms of cultural and religious sensitivities as well as linguistic and technological barriers
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to control and express one’s emotions in a judicious, patient, and empathetic manner, both in the classroom and with team members and other staff, to productively contribute to the team and classroom dynamic
- Computer Skills: Ability to navigate and troubleshoot Microsoft Office suite products, Google Drive files, WhatsApp, Zoom, and various internet browsers; willingness to download and learn new technologies and applications as the landscape of online teaching shifts; have knowledge of efficiency shortcuts (like bookmarks) and demonstrate professional email etiquette, etc., in order to plan curriculum and teach students these technical skills; exhibit proficiency in subject areas and be able to share knowledge in order to meet learning objectives
Preferred Competencies:
- Time Management: Create and execute effective lessons within the time limit of the class
- Information Gathering: Record student attendance and log feedback when necessary to provide timely and accurate accounts of class activity
Reports to: Senior Manager of Social Enterprise (SE)
Status: Part-Time
Salary: $18.29/hour – Non-Exempt
Benefits: Paid Sick Time and Option to participate in a Simple IRA account with 3% Employer match.
